The Setting
Satipur:
- unbearably hot and dusty in summer
- has always been a small station for the British
- evocative graveyard
Simla:
- Shimla originally called Simla, is a city in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh
- In 1864, Shimla was declared the summer capital of the erstwhile British Raj in India
- is located in the north-western ranges of the Himalayas
- pleasant summers and cold, snowy winters (that is why the English women go to Simla in the hot summer saison)
